Work set to begin on $56M sports and leisure centre on Northern Gold Coast.
Council has today confirmed work will start on a new, $56 million aquatic sports and leisure centre in Pimpama.
The snazzy new facility is slated to have netball and tennis courts, a 50m pool and two smaller pools as well as learn-to-swim facilities and a cafe.
Deputy Mayor Donna Gates said it was about time an Olympic pool was built on the northern Gold Coast, with the closest 50m pool at least 20km away at Runaway Bay.
“We’ve recognised for some time the need to have a 50m pool on the northern end,” Cr Gates said.
“I think there’s about 27 schools now in the north of the city so we want to be able to provide facilities for not only the schools to use but all of the community.”
Ms Gates said it was important to have some lap pools for squads to train and for kids to learn to swim.
“And all that will come to Pimpama as a result of this development,” she said.
It’s understood the facility should be near to completion at the end of 2020. Source:
