Super Wi-Fi hot spots and Stage 2 of Light Rail a reality on the Gold Coast in early 2018

REVEALED: First of a series of Wi-Fi locations on Gold Coast as part of $5.5 million plan

The Gold Coast Bulletin revealed a series of free and superfast Wi-Fi locations that are part of an ambitious plan to make the Gold Coast the country’s best digitally connected city.

“As we work along the light rail line, you’ll start to get areas that almost connect and within a year to 18 months we hope to have uninterrupted service from Griffith University to Broadbeach and either side of the Gold Coast Highway.” Mayor Tom Tate.

In an Australian first, council has built its own fibre network along the length of the light rail route capable of delivering internet speeds up to 10 times faster than the NBN and boasting enough data capacity to support 50,000 businesses.

TRAM timetables are about to change as testing on the light rail extension to Helensvale ramps up to the next level.

The Gold Coast Bulletin has confirmed from today, G: Link will start running trams from Helensvale but the carriages will remain passenger-free until the Gold Coast University Hospital.

The new tests are to ensure the upcoming timetable works and to tweak any issues with the line as well as the CCTV, passenger information displays and communication systems.

The trams will run at the same frequency but the time of departure may change slightly.
